Overview
This certification program is designed for aspiring burlesque performers who want to develop their unique stage presence, master the art of tease, and connect with their audience. Participants will explore character development, costume and prop usage, and comedic storytelling, culminating in a live performance for friends and family.
Program Structure
- Duration: 4 sessions, each 4 hours long (16 hours total)
- Format: Monthly workshops to give you time to prepare in between, followed by a final performance on the last day.
- Final Showcase: A 10-minute performance per participant, presented in an intimate atmosphere to the other participants, friends and family.
PART 1:
Discovering and building your Stage Character & your Story
- Objective: Lay the groundwork for your burlesque persona.
- Topics Covered:
- Character Development: Define your stage persona, unique traits, and backstory.
- Body Language & Mimicry: Learn how body posture, gestures, and facial expressions can enhance your stage presence.
- Building your Story: Create a narrative for your performance.
- Research & Inspiration: Explore historical styles, genres, music and themes to guide your performance.
- Outcome: By the end of this session, participants will have a basic outline of their stage character, the story of their show and a list of potential songs, costumes, and accessories to start preparing at home.
PART 2:
Costume, Choreography & Tease Techniques
- Objective: Start constructing the visual and choreographic elements of your performance.
- Preparation: Bring the first parts of your costume, chosen song, and selected accessories.
- Topics Covered:
- Costuming & Accessories: Tips for costume creation and management during the performance.
- Tease Techniques: Learn different ways to remove costume pieces and use accessories to enhance the performance.
- Basic Dance Moves: Introduction to burlesque dance movements that match your character.
- Outcome: By the end of this session, participants will have practiced integrating their costumes, music, and props into their performance.
PART 3:
Adding Comedy & Connecting with the Audience
- Objective: Infuse comedy and interaction techniques to elevate your performance.
- Topics Covered:
- Humor & Expression: Techniques to add comedic elements and bring out laughs and reactions from the audience.
- Stage Presence & Audience Engagement: Learn how to break the fourth wall and connect with the audience.
- Improvisation Tips: How to react to unexpected moments on stage.
- Outcome: Participants will have added comedic elements to their performance and learned how to engage and captivate their audience.
PART 4:
Final Rehearsal & Certification Performance
- Objective: Finalise and present your number in front of an audience.
- Activities:
- General Rehearsal: Run-through of each performance, including feedback and adjustments.
- Make-Up & Styling Class: Stage lamps tend to “eat” your Make-up.
You need special techniques in order to look like a pro on stage.
You will also get tips for perfecting your hair style and make it hold in place while dancing. - Mini-Performance for Friends & Family: Present your burlesque number in a supportive, celebratory environment in the studio and invite your supporters to watch.
- Outcome: Successful participants will receive a Burlesque Performer Certification Diploma.
Program Logistics
- Group Size: Maximum of 8 participants per workshop for personalized guidance.
- Requirements: Participants should have a basic comfort level with dance and performance.
Beginners accepted
All genders and ages 18+ are welcome. - Location: Cologne pole Fitness Studio – kleine Witschgasse 8 – 50676 Köln
- Materials: Participants should bring costume pieces and props as outlined during the workshops.
Certification Criteria
- Active participation in all four workshops.
- Successful completion of a 5-10 minute performance.
- Display of character development, costume integration, comedic timing, and audience engagement during the final showcase.
Price of the full certification program:
499€ or 4 x 125€.
includes 4 x 4h workshop + performance night with 2 tickets for friends.
Possibility to book our photographer for professional pictures before & during the performance for 45€/p.
Those pictures will help you to sell your show for agencies.
